General Administration Department was formed on 28.10.1985 with a specific responsibility to regulate the facilities and entitlement of the members of the Council of Minister the Officers of the State Government and visiting dignitaries, to look after the Welfare of the Exservicemen personnel etc and administration of the Cinematography Act etc.

The General Administration Department was split up into two separate Administrative Branches i.e. General Administration (A) Department and General Administration (B) Department w.e.f. 23.10.1985


General Administration Department (A)

General Administration Department (A) is a part of the General Administration Department which was reorganized splitted up into the Administrative Branches known as General Administration Department (A) & General Administration Department (B). This Department has been identified as a Public Authority.

General Adminstration Department (B)

General Administration Department (B) was created with a specific responsibility to regulate the facilities and entitlement of the members of the Council of Ministry, the Officers of the State Government, visiting dignitaries to the State, Census Operations/ National Population Register, maintenance and repairs of Government Bungalows/ Quarters, Aadhaar Enrolment in the state and the welfare of Ex-Servicemen. It performs duties and functions as per Government Rules and procedures under the direction of the Competent Authority.

This Department has been identified as a Public Authority. The Department is the Administrative Department of 1(one) Directorate and 3 (three) District Offices viz;

  1. Directorate of Sainik Welfare Office, Shillong
  2. Zila Sainik Welfare Office, Shillong.
  3. Zila Sainik Welfare Office, Tura
  4. Estate Office, Shillong.
